It took years

to learn to listen to my body.  I was always following the latest and best “way to eat.” I was a vegetarian that did triathlons and cut back on calories to lose a few.  All I lost was vitality, a functioning thyroid and years to depression, I lacked motivation and suffered from brain fog.

When I had trouble conceiving, I finally started eating meat, and that helped.  But I was still on the processed food and sugar train. I got sick. A lot.  I was tired, and cranky, and inflamed.   It wasn’t until I had a random, severe allergic reaction that I finally thought it was time to get to the bottom of my issues.   Did it take time?  Yes, and at almost 53, I still work on my health every day.

I wanted to learn all I could about true health, not just bandaging symptoms.  I started with ADAPT’s Functional Health Coach certification.  But I wanted to learn more, so I enrolled to become a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. I learned so much about how the body wants to be in balance and that each cell is made up of what we eat.   But that wasn’t enough, so now I am working my way to become a Master Restorative Health Practitioner with two levels to go.

I believe supporting the body’s foundations is the key to an increased health span.   If our foundations aren’t solid, downstream problems like hormone imbalance,  high blood pressure, depression and insulin resistance and other issues may occur.

Thanks to Erin Ducat DC, I started working with kettlebells at 49. Though I had been lifting weights and working out for years, her encouragement to lift heavy weights helped with chronic neck pain. Erin introduced me to Strong First in 2019 which started me down the rabbit hole of Strong First certifications. In February 2024, I became a Strong First Elite Instructor, completing certifications in kettlebells, barbell and bodyweight.
